Visit a BIG little museum in the heart of Weardale

The Weardale Museum is a small but perfectly formed museum that really packs a punch. The attraction includes miners’ kitchen with a treasure trove of objects to explore and handle and children are encouraged to become Sherlock Holmes with magnifying glasses and deerstalker hats. The Weardale Tapestry is a sight to behold with the area's rich history in stitches and the museum features a fine collection of local minerals. You can also experience the beautiful High House Chapel, dating back from 1760, and learn about visits to the Chapel from John Wesley, one of the founders of Methodism. Recently awarded "Outstanding Achievement by a Volunteer Run Museum" by the Arts Council, the Weardale Museum is not to be missed.

Weardale Railway

A volunteer run heritage attraction, the Weardale Railway line runs adjacent to our Kingfisher Leisure Park. Operating frequent steam engine services up the line during the summer, it's a great way to experience steam engines of old and travel on a line that was originally built in 1847. With the area’s rich heritage when it comes to Rail travel and the fantastic seasonal events put on by the Weardale Railway volunteer group you will not want to miss this great attraction.
