How to stay safe in the water

Getting out for a thrilling water sports adventure is exciting, but it's important to make sure you're staying safe while enjoying water-based activities. Check the weather forecast before you head out and try to bring someone along with you. If that's not possible, be sure to tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back. Keep your phone with you in a waterproof pouch and make sure it stays charged in case of an emergency.

Before entering the water, know your limits and remember not to take risks. Be aware of your surroundings, hazards and strong currents, and be prepared for conditions to change quickly. Never jump directly into water below 15°C to avoid cold water shock, which is incredibly dangerous. If you fall into the water unexpectedly, remember Float to Live.
