We’ve highlighted some of the best attractions and events to enjoy during your visits below!
Christmas in County Durham
Be enchanted at Beamish this Christmas! The Beamish Christmas festivities kick off with a parade through the 1900s Town Street, followed by a series of events which allow you to experience the Christmases of the past. From Father Christmas’ Grotto to the Beamish Bazaar, ice rink and funfair, you will find something for everyone to enjoy with Christmas at Beamish.
Weardale Steam Railway
The Train to Christmas Town is the most magical experience for families and as the train starts from Stanhope, the village next to Heather View Leisure Park and travels through Kingfisher Leisure Park, you can’t find a closer Christmas attraction. There are train journeys from Thursday to Sunday throughout December, but they book fast so plan early!
Northumberland Christmas Events
Beginning with The Grand Lantern Parade at the end of November, the festivities at Alnwick Gardens’ are not to be missed during your stay at Riverside Leisure Park. With Christmas Markets every weekend, a Christmas Light Show throughout December, an ice rink and a visit from the Giant Snow Lion on December 15th and 16th, there is so much to see and do!
Wooler Farmers Market and Christmas Lights
In true country community spirit, this farmers market brings everyone together. There is a market, Christmas film shown in the Cheviot Centre and a visit from Santa with the Christmas Light switch on. Usually taking place at the beginning of December, this event is in the village next to Riverside and will make for a fantastic start to the festive season for any member of the family.
East Lothian festive fun
Archerfield Christmas Fairy Trail
Take a trip into a beautiful Christmas Fairytale as part of the Christmas Fairy Trail at Archerfield Walled Garden. Not only will you see a variety of flying treetop fairies, but you will also be able to watch Fairy Blossom dance before taking to the dancefloor yourself in the magical fairy disco. Once the show is over, you can take to the fire pits to make your own s’mores and warm up at the food bar with hot chocolate, mulled wine and other festive treats.
East Links Family Park
Enjoy a real animal nativity scene, snowy bouncy castle and winter wonderland as part of the Christmas fun at East Links Family Park in December! In addition, the park will have elves greeting you on arrival and you’ll be able to see Santa arrive on his sleigh train every morning! All this, with the exception of Santa’s Grotto, is included in your usual admission, which is discounted when you pick up a discount voucher in reception at Thurston Manor.
Treat your pooch this Christmas at Dobbies Edinburgh
As we always say, dogs are part of the family too! So during your stay in our Doggy Lodge at Thurston Manor, why not enjoy a visit to Dobbies’ Santa’s Doggy Grotto! Bring your furry friend along to get a selfie with Santa and a special doggy treat!
Berwickshire and the Borders at Christmas
Berwick Garden Centre
Visit the Christmas Donkeys, enjoy the Christmas Displays and visit Santa at Berwick Garden Centre. The Garden Centre becomes a winter wonderland mid-November and Santa arrives in early December!
Santa Specials at Heatherslaw Railway
Enjoy a magical train ride in the Scottish Borders at Ford & Ettal Estates. Step on board one of the festively decorated steam trains, which make for a great adventure! Once complete, you will be taken into the festive Model Railway Room to enjoy refreshments and visit Santa in his Grotto.
Christmas in North Ayrshire
Festive food with Santa at Dobbies Garden Centre
Ever wanted to sit down and enjoy a meal with Santa? At Dobbies you can! Visit Dobbies in Ayr during your stay at Viewfield Manor and book onto breakfast or tea with Santa each weekend between mid-November and Christmas Eve.
Glasgow Christmas Markets
If you are joining us from the south or east, a visit to Glasgow is a must during your stay! Jump on a train in Kilwinning and be in the city within a half hour. You can do all your Christmas shopping, enjoy the vintage carousel and take a slide down the helter skelter at the Glasgow Christmas Markets this year! What more could you want?
