Dog-Friendly Beaches in
Scotland and Northern England

Enjoying the sun, sea and sand with your four-legged friend

Most of us enjoy the feeling of sand beneath our feet, and that’s true for the four-legged friends in our families too. What could be better for your pet than a long run on the beach, chasing the waves and playing fetch with the water? That’s why we’ve outlined our favourite dog-friendly beaches in Scotland and Northern England below.

Dog enjoying the water at Pease Bay beach

South East Scotland

There are a huge variety of beaches close to our four parks in South East Scotland, including Pease Bay which can be accessed directly from any holiday home on our Park of the same name!

Pease Bay is a beautiful location with cliffs surrounding the sand, and a passage leading to Cove’s secret beach! With the park directly on the bay, there are facilities a plenty, including an area to sit with your pet and enjoy the gorgeous food that the Smuggler’s Bay offers, a shop and play area.

Coldingham Bay and Scoutscroft are both within walking distance of the stunning Coldingham Sands too! This beautiful beach with its beach huts and beachside café is like something out of a postcard and recently retained its Scottish Beach Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful!

Thurston Manor is in the East Lothian countryside, but offers sea views from parts of the park! Within a 30 minute drive, you will find amazing beaches including Whitesands, Dunbar, Yellowcraigs. The nearby John Muir Country park boasts amazing walking routes for dogs with access to both woodland and beach – what more could you want?

South West Scotland

Viewfield Manor is nestled in the Ayrshire countryside, just a 20-minute drive to the beach. The closest beach to the park is Irvine beach with breathtaking views out to the Isle of Arran. The beach is bordered by the Irvine beach park, which is part of Stage 8 of the Ayrshire Coastal Path.

Nearby Saltcoats also provides a great beach for those with dogs throughout the year. The beach joins the towns of Saltcoats and Ardrossan and there are plenty of areas to sit back and enjoy the view, with many cafes and play areas for the family to enjoy.

Days out at Coldingham Bay beach

North East England

Riverside Leisure park is nestled in the foot of the Northumberland National Park, just a short distance from the Northumberland coast. Within 20 minutes you can enjoy the coast in the most northern town in England, Berwick Upon Tweed. This picturesque beach features pier complete with lighthouse and the town is an ideal place for history buffs due to its role in English and Scottish history. Your pooch will love chasing the waves and splashing in the mouth of one of England’s most famous rivers, the River Tweed.

Looking for something a little less tourist lead? Nearby Goswick beach is a hidden gem of a beach just a few miles from Riverside. With miles of sandy beach to run down and an incredible view of Holy Island, it’s the ideal place for a run around for you and your dog!

Another amazing location close by is the beach and harbour of nearby Bamburgh and Seahouses! These towns are a hit with tourists due to the impressive Bamburgh castle that overshadows Bamburgh beach! The harbour at Seahouses is the ideal place for a lunch of fish and chips during your walk along the Northumberland coastal path which links the two towns.

Is the countryside more of your pooch’s thing? No fear, our holiday parks in the Durham Dales are ideal for those who prefer to stay a little more inland! Heather View is ideal for those looking for a breakaway and Kingfisher, our owner’s only park offers the ideal countryside retreat for you and your pooch to return to whenever you want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Our Customers Testimonials

Here's what some of our happy customers have to say.

We hired two lodges, one with a hot tub which my son, wife and toddler used and a standard 2 bed lodge for ourselves. Both lodges were a good size, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Booking staff were patient and helpful coping with our requests for lodge changes at the time of booking. Our holiday experience from start to finish was five star.

Just had three nights in a beautiful lodge by the lake which was bigger and more equipped than our house, apart from kitchen utensils. No grater or colander or mixing spoons so cooking wasn't straightforward. That aside what a fantastic place, fishing and swimming and great night entertainment. Definitely will go again.

Just returned from Thurston Manor and we had a lovely time. Key collection was prompt as we were provided a slot for collection which was perfect. On arrival into our Deluxe 2 bedroom lodge it was cosy and clean and I liked the fact that all crockery, glasses and cutlery were in the dishwasher having just been washed so I knew they were clean...

...We stayed in a Lakeside lodge which was a bit far from main entertainment facilities which you are advised when you book, but the location for us was perfect as we travelled with our two dogs. There are two beautiful beaches a short drive away so that was where we spent our time with our dogs. We had a slight issue with our television when we arrived which was promptly rectified by a lovely member of staff who went the extra mile to help us. We will have no hesitation in returning, lovely site and great 4 day break.

This is a lovely clean and well maintained site which is ideal for a tranquil break. Great heating system for bad weather and lots of hot water. There are teabags, coffee, milk and sugar for a cuppa on arrival. Beds are comfy and made up for arrival, both bedding and towels are pristine and of good quality. The caravans are a reasonable distance apart and are divided between trees and bushes so you don't feel to close to your neighbour. There is a picnic bench outside each caravan so you can enjoy a drink or a meal outdoors when the weather is good...

...Staff could not be any more helpful or friendly and any problem/query is resolved quickly and efficiently. Nothing is to much trouble. Great location for wildlife and children will love to see the many wild rabbits feeding between the caravans. The ducks wander the site and will arrive on parade at your doorstep looking for food. Great location to visit the rest of Northumberland or even to visit Scotland. Ideal for families or walkers alike. Enjoyed our stay so much we returned for another stay 3 weeks later and are looking forward to our next stay.

Once again we arrived back at this lovely location for a few days visiting the area alongside some lovely walking in the areas. This park is very well maintained and the staff on reception are friendly. We always try to book a few times of the year to visit this area and the various caravans we have hired are lovely and cleaned also well maintained.
