Beaches near Edinburgh
Our parks Thurston Manor and Pease Bay, but is under an hour’s drive from Edinburgh and close to the East Lothian coastline. So if you’re up for exploring some beautiful beaches, before returning back to your woodland retreat, Thurston Manor is the ideal holiday location for you.
Gullane Beach
Well known for its golf courses, Gullane is just a half hour drive from Thurston Manor and boasts a stunning sandy beach with spectacular views. Watch the windsurfers and kites flying if it’s windy, or enjoy one of the many walking routes in the area. Choose from a stroll through the sand dunes or head along to Gullane Point and take in the surrounding Gullane Bay and views out onto the Firth of Forth. The beach is also dog friendly, so the whole family can enjoy a day out, and maybe a picnic!
Milsey Bay – North Berwick
You’ll find the sandy beach, Milsey Bay, at the eastern end of North Berwick. Fun for all the family and dog friendly, you can enjoy walks, swimming, sunbathing or why not explore the rock pools and see what you can find? There’s also a pool amongst the rocks where children can sail boats or just enjoy a paddle! You can enjoy all of this whilst taking in the superb views out over the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock.
Belhaven Bay
With views across the Forth Estuary, Belhaven Bay is perfect for family picnics, sunbathing and walks through the sand dunes and colourful grasslands. A visit to Belhaven Bay is ideal for kite flying adventures or surfing, and is easily accessed on foot along the cliff top walk, or by car via parking at Belhaven or John Muir Country Park.
Yellowcraigs Beach
Surrounded by trees and grassland, Yellowcraigs beach, also known as Broad Sands Bay, offers views out to Fidra Island and its lighthouse. You may also know Fidra Island as the inspiration behind Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. With a pirate theme adventure playground and plenty of walks through the neighbouring forest, along with horseback riding, there really is something to keep the whole family entertained. If you don’t fancy a picnic, why not make use of the BBQ area, just make sure you book in advance. If you’re bringing your four legged friend, you can enjoy a dog walk away from the beach with dog bins provided.
Tyninghame Beach
Known as one of the finest in South Scotland, Tyninghame Beach is a long, sandy beach which is normally quiet out of peak season. The walk from the nearest parking is a fair way, but can offer a scenic stroll through an old pine forest. With views out to Bass Rock, you can also spy the lighthouse and accompanying gannets.
