Our holiday park Viewfield Manor acts as a great base from which to enjoy countryside holidays, but you can also take in sights of the coast with sandy beaches close by. There’s no better way to spend your holiday than on the golden beaches of Scotland, whether you’re going for a fun-filled family visit with a game of football or to build sandcastles, or whether you’re looking to simply enjoy the sounds of the sea and stroll the dunes, there’s a beach for everyone to enjoy. We’ve listed below the best beaches in south Scotland to visit.
Troon beach is just a 20-minute drive from Viewfield Manor, and is a great location for families seeking to feel the sand between their toes! For active kids, there’s a play park to enjoy and a volleyball court. If paddling is more your thing, the clear waters are perfect for a splash in the waves. If you’re feeling peckish, there’s also a restaurant close by.
Adjoining Troon is Irvine beach, another beautiful location, perfect for families and couples alike. During your visit to Irvine beach, why not take the Irvine Beach trail and enjoy a long stroll? On busy days, there’s often a café kiosk open to stop by for a hot brew or a cold drink to cool the kids down after an afternoon of running on the sand.
Also, just a short drive from the park is Saltcoats, which stretches for miles and is perfect for those seeking a long stroll across the sandy shoreline. This beach is a little quieter than the more family orientated beaches, so is great for a peaceful visit to enjoy the waves crashing on the sand.
Considered one of the best beaches in south Scotland, Ayr beach is a must visit for those looking for family fun. The sandy beach is perfect for children to play on, making sandcastles and enjoying picnics. Close by you’ll also find a crazy golf course and a play area, so the little one’s can run off some steam. For those travelling alone or without children, the beach is also excellent for walking and cycling. The dedicated Sustrans National Cycle Route 7 is the perfect cycle route to take in the views of Ailsa Craig.
For those wishing to spot the wonders of the local wildlife, Stevenston Beach is the perfect location. The Nature Reserve has many dunes which are home to a diverse range of wildlife, perfect for insect and bird spotting. There’s also a beautiful range of wild flowers in the Summer, perfect for the keen photographer.
