St Abb's as taken by the winner of Verdant Leisure's Photography Competition, the perfect place to enjoy Scottish Walks

Meet the winner of our first UK Photography Competition

In October 2017, we hosted our first ever photography competition, the competition offered budding amateur photographers the chance to have their images published in our 2018/2019 brochure. In each of the five categories, one winner was carefully selected by a panel of judges including The Scottish Sun’s Travel Editor, Heather Lowrie and our CEO, Graham Hodgson. Fans of our Facebook page also voted for their favourites.

With his stunning image overlooking the vast landscape of St Abbs, David Nichol was awarded the overall winner of the competition.

David entered his photo into the competition after taking it during a family summer holiday at our Pease Bay park in July 2017. The judges were so impressed with the image that showed the picturesque scenery on the doorstep of the leisure park that they chose David as the overall winner.

Speaking of his win, David said, “I am hugely honoured to win this competition, when I saw the standard of and the volume of entries I thought I had no chance of winning! Pease Bay Leisure Park is like a home from home for my family.  I would hate to count how many photographs I have of Pease Bay Leisure Park and the surrounding area.”

David has also won two, week-long holidays in 2018 at a park of his choice.

Other winners of the photography competition include: Lynsey Hardie, Georgina Hogg, Fiona Lavery and John Corney.

Fiona Lavery, 29 from Penicuik, snapped her natural image of her daughter Abi playing on Pease Bay Beach and was named winner of the ‘family memories’ category.

Winner of the ‘beach life’ category, Lynsey Hardie, 35 from Armadale, captured a lovely image at Coldingham Bay Beach of her children Grace, Lilly and Keir.

With Thurston Manor Leisure Park nestled at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills, it was the perfect location for Georgina Hogg, 45 from Prestonpans, to take her winning image of a Scottish Longhorn Cow in the ‘cool countryside’ category.

John R Corney, 57 from Leeds, captured a dog playing in the sea during a walk along the stunning Pease Bay beach, which won the ‘holidays with man’s best friend’ category.

As well as their images featuring in our new brochure, all winners have won a short break in a luxury caravan at one of our six holiday locations.

The competition was launched following our survey earlier in the year which showed that Brits thought the UK’s coastline and countryside was so stunning, they believed they were looking at photos of exotic foreign climes!

The competition was hosted on our Facebook page for four weeks from October.
