How to stay safe in the water

Getting out for a thrilling water sports adventure is great fun, but it's important to make sure you're staying safe while in and on the water. Check the weather forecast before you head out and try not to go on your own. Make sure to tell someone where you're going and what time you're expecting to be back. Keep your phone with you in a waterproof pouch and make sure it's charged so you can call for help in an emergency.

Before entering the water, be sure you know your limits and don't take risks. Stay aware of your surroundings, hazards and strong currents and be prepared for conditions to change quickly. Never jump directly into water below 15°C, as this can cause cold water shock, which is incredibly dangerous. If you fall into the water unexpectedly, remember Float to Live.
