How to stay safe in the water

Water sports are a fabulous way to get out and enjoy some fresh air while on holiday, but staying safe while in and on the water is incredibly important. Always check the weather forecast before heading out, and try not to go alone. If you have to go alone, be sure to tell someone where you're going and when you expect to be back. Take your phone with you in a waterproof pouch and keep it charged in case of emergencies.

Be sure to know your limits and don't take risks while in the water. Stay aware of your surroundings, hazards and strong currents, and be prepared in case conditions change quickly. Never jump directly into water below 15°C, as this can cause cold water shock, which is incredibly dangerous. If you fall into the water unexpectedly, remember Float to Live.
