Head of People

Location: Verdant Leisure, 10 Mannin Way, Lancaster, LA1 3SW

Salary: £Competitive

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time position of 37.5hrs a week, Monday to Friday. (Hybrid working available)

About the Role

Reporting to the CEO and working as part of the Senior Leadership Team, our Head of People is responsible for the HR strategy and day-to-day operations across our 14 parks and head office. The role covers all aspects of employee engagement, talent management and HR compliance, including managing the central HR team.

Typical duties and responsibilities include:

  • Support the CEO to develop and maintain a strong company culture and employee engagement. 
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy. 
  • Take leadership and responsibility for all HR projects. 
  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process to ensure the company attracts and retains top talent. 
  • Empower and coach managers to handle people-related challenges effectively, building their confidence and capability in resolving issues, driving performance, and fostering a supportive team environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all employment laws and regulations. 
  • Regularly review and update HR policies and procedures to ensure they are effective and compliant. 
  • Provide monthly reports to the Board of Directors that include challenges, gains, and key HR metrics.

About the Person

With previous experience in a HR leadership role, you will need to be passionate about people, a strategic thinker and a change advocate. We are looking for someone with proven successes in coaching managers to deal effectively with people issues and a clear and up-to-date understanding of UK Employment Law.

Skills and experience required:

  • Level 5/7 CIPD qualification (or qualified by experience)
  • Previous experience of managing/mentoring a HR team to successfully achieve targets
  • Previous experience building HR strategies and initiatives that align with and drive business goals
  • Experience of providing a HR service in a multi-site environment is highly desirable
  • Excellent understanding of UK employment law
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Strong IT skills, including experience with HR/L&D software
